TypeSnap for Lawyers and Legal Professionals
Legal boilerplate, client communications, and case templates — TypeSnap keeps your confidential snippets on your Mac, not in someone else's cloud.
Who this is for
If you’re an attorney, paralegal, or legal assistant who spends significant time drafting engagement letters, client communications, pleadings, or contract clauses, TypeSnap can eliminate most of the repetitive writing that fills your day. And unlike cloud-based tools, it keeps your snippet content on your device — which matters when confidentiality is your professional obligation.
The confidentiality problem
Attorney-client privilege is foundational to legal practice. Some bar associations have issued guidance about lawyers’ ethical obligations when using cloud services for client communications and work product. When you use a cloud-based text expansion tool, your snippet content — including template language, clause libraries, and communication templates — is synced to remote servers operated by a third party.
Even if the text expansion provider encrypts your data, you’re still trusting that provider with content that may touch on privileged communications. For many firms, that’s an unnecessary risk.
TypeSnap stores everything locally in ~/Library/Application Support/TypeSnap/ on your Mac. No cloud sync. No account creation. No data transmission. Your snippet library is a local file that never leaves your machine. The same way you’d keep a physical form book in your office, TypeSnap keeps your digital templates on your computer and nowhere else.
What lawyers type repeatedly
Legal work involves enormous amounts of repeated language. Not identical documents — but documents built from the same structural components, adjusted for each matter:
- Engagement letter openings and scope-of-representation language
- Attorney-client privilege notices on emails and documents
- Standard disclaimers and limitation-of-liability language
- Matter closure letters and final billing communications
- Confidentiality footers on every outgoing email
- Court filing cover pages and certificate-of-service blocks
- Contract clauses you use across multiple agreements
You probably have these saved somewhere — a template folder, a document management system, a Word file with “standard language” in the title. But pulling text from those sources is slow. You open the file, find the section, copy it, switch back, paste it, and then adjust it.
How TypeSnap solves it
Type a short trigger in any application — Word, Outlook, your practice management software, a web browser — and the full text appears instantly. No switching apps. No searching through template folders.
Fill-in fields let you customize each expansion on the fly. Your engagement letter opener can prompt for the client name, matter description, and fee structure before expanding. Your referral template can ask for the receiving attorney’s name and area of law.
Because TypeSnap works at the macOS level, it works in every app. Your clause library is available in Word, Google Docs, your firm’s DMS web interface, email, and anywhere else you type.
